ARE artist-in-residence Yu Zhang is an artist from Nanjing. During her stay at one of the ARE studio’s, Yu has been working on her project ‘THE WASTE LAND’ and will present her work and process at XPO.

Opening: Thursday June 9 at 5PM

THE WASTE LAND started with collecting, documenting, and recycling personal household waste during the first 100 days of 2022. The process has been developing along the thread of self-awareness, and it was fleeting in multiple pieces of waste on a day-to-day basis. The awareness of “environmental protection” becomes concrete when micro-level actions are required. The project seeks different art forms to present the results by diving into the documentation – photographs, videos, physical artifacts, sorted pictures, and interactive installations. Meanwhile, through AI technology, the project explores a possible timeline for future waste predictions.

Location: XPO, Stroinksbleekweg 2, 7523 ZL, Enschede (NL)
Open: 7 to 15 June 2022 – daily from 11AM to 17PM
