In the exhibition KABLOOM, Olivié Keck shows a collection of paintings she made during her stay in Enschede. This collection is a contemporary reimagining of the genre of Dutch still life painting. Keck uses aspects of the traditional floral motif as a framework to explore playful and flirtatious themes around love and intimacy.

Opening: Aug 31st, 7pm – 9pm
Period: Sept 1st – 3rd, 1pm – 4pm

Keck draws visual inspiration from the rich textile tradition of the Wax Hollandais, a Dutch wax fabric printing technique manufactured exclusively in Holland since the early 1800’s. Originally inspired by Indonesian Batik, these textile designs are predominantly exported to the Africa market. Wax Hollandais is now widely associated as being an exclusively ‘African Fabric’ and has become a significant influence in the contemporary African aesthetic.

KABLOOM acknowledges the vibrant exchange that still exists between Holland and the African continent, whilst celebrating the artist’s signature aesthetic with her love of bold colour, graphic pattern and whimsy.

Olivié Keck was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1989. She received her BFA from The Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town in 2011.
